MegaWhats 2017 Semifinals line-up

These are the line-ups of the two MegaWhats 2017 semifinals scheduled for Friday, June 30.

Teams in Semifinal 1 are requested to report by 1330 Hrs latest. The quiz will start at 1400 Hrs. The second semifinal will start at 1600 Hrs; please report by 1515 Hrs at least.

The team “Three Men in a Quiz to say nothing of the Doc” from New Delhi have confirmed their inability to make it, and their slot has been given to the team named Aardvarks Alliance from Chennai.

The line-up was formed simply by ranking the 16 teams by score and sorting into even and odd ranked teams. Ties were resolved by using the first incorrect answer. Please note that request for moving to the other semifinals will not be entertained.

ASKQANCE 2016–A round-up

The semifinals and finals of MegaWhats 2016 – the national flagship team quizzing championship of the KQA took place on Day 1 of asKQAnce 2016.

The first semis saw a close fight ending in a tiebreaker between two teams with Metaquizziks from Bangalore eventually prevailing over the Travelling Pillsburys from Mumbai. They joined the top three teams from this semi, Ingit Bergman – Mumbai, Swami and Friends – Hyderabad and We Are Like This Wonly – Bangalore.

In the second semifinal QED-Chennai won, with Remembrance of Things Fast-Chennai a close second. Matunga Manram-Mumbai finished third and Aardvarks-Delhi pipped a couple of other teams to take fourth place.

After a riveting final, there was a new champion – Remembrance of Things Fast – Chennai, represented by Navin Rajaram, Kiran Vijayakumar, Srinath Bashyam and Manu Sudhakar.

QED from Chennai with Samanth, Sankhya, Gopal and Jayakanthan finished second.
Waltwo from Bangalore with Thejaswi, Anustup, Arun and Ochintya finished third.

The quiz was set by Mitesh Agarwal and Venkatesh Srinivasan.

The @Knappily India Quiz was conducted on Saturday, 25 June 2016 by Ochintya Sharma and Alagarsamy AP. After a closely fought prelims, the following eight teams made it to the finals with these final standings:

Double Sculls – the written sports quiz was conducted on Saturday, 25 June 2016 by Ashwin Kumar and Rajagopal PS. The quiz had a huge turnout and teams attempted 45 questions in writing.
After a close finish, the podium finishers were:

Runners-up – Vinoo Sanjay and Atul Mathew
3rd Place – Sankhya and Sreeram

The movies quiz at ASKQANCE 2016 – Son of Lumiere was conducted on Day II of Askqance by Santosh Swaminathan and Anustup Datta. The marathon quiz with loads of movie clips from multiple language films went on till the wee hours of the night and in the end, the top three were:

Winners – Metaquizziks – Varun, Priyambad, Ashwin and Shiv
Runners-up – QED – Samanth, Jayakanthan, Gopal and TKB
3rd Place – Mavericks – Ramkey, Dr Chandrashekar, Nikhil and Atul

Day 3 at ASKQANCE 2016 started with Collected Works – the Arts Quiz by Varun Rajiv and Vivek Karthikeyan. After a 30-questions prelims, which was well enjoyed and cracked by the teams, the Top eight teams made it to the final, with QED from Chennai coming out trumps, at the end of the finals. There was a tie-break for second spot, in which Remembrance of Things Fast pipped Matunga Manram to second place.

The flagship General Quiz at Askqance – Sesame, saw a huge number of teams attempt the prelims (nearly 50 teams). After a tightly contested 40-questions prelims, a long finals began – a quiz in two halves, respectively by Thejaswi Udupa and Arul Mani.

After 75+ questions in the finals, there was a tie between two teams – The Travelling Pillsburys from Mumbai and QED from Chennai – the tie was resolved after the second tie-breaker question and QED emerged champions.
The final standings were:

Winners – QED – 385 points
2nd Place – The Travelling Pillsburys – 385
3rd Place – Matunga Manram – 370

The three-day quiz festival ended with the fun-AJM quiz. Despite the late start, almost 50 people stayed back – a mix of Bangaloreans and outstation quizzers. Beginning with a twin List-It round, Sai Ganesh, Kaustuba Venugopal and Abhishek Upadhya, regaled the participants with some fun questions, PJs and fantastic fundas.
The quiz ended with two large teams of about 20 people each, and much chaos on the pounce! The team which had Jayakanthan R and Rajagopal PS among others won the quiz, as the event wound up post 10 PM on Sunday.Thanks to everyone who stayed back and to the QMs for a very interesting and fun quiz – the perfect way to end the fest.

asKQAnce 2015 – Schedule

The Karnataka Quiz Association will be celebrating its 32nd anniversary this year and is hosting asKQAnce – a three-day festival of quizzing from Friday to Sunday, June 26 to 28, 2015. All the quizzes will be held at the Institution of Agricultural Technologists on Queen’s Road. This is the schedule:

The time taken from IAT to the airport is about 75 minutes and the Cantonment railway station is only five minutes away. Please plan your return trip accordingly.

Mega-Whats 2015 Results

A total of 129 teams from 16 centres in India and Dubai wrote Mega-Whats 2015. These are the toppers in each category:

Open: QED (Samanth, Swami, JK, Gopal) from Chennai – 86

College: The Fake is a Lie (Abhishek Kapoor, Jyotesh Singh, Anagh Mukherjee, Apratim Mukhopadhyay) from Delhi – 60

School: Les Quizerables (Shrey, Vignesh) & Eternal Moonshine of the Spotless Behind (Akhil Nori, Gaurang, Akhil Siddharth, Shaurya), both from Bangalore – 17

These are all the scores after re-correction, with city winners in each category indicated. As was done last year, the top 10 city winners and remaining 6 top scores qualify for the finals. In case any teams drop out, their spots will be filled by the remaining highest team overall. Tie-breaks were resolved by sudden death from the first question.

ASKQANCE 2014 for Schools & Colleges on Saturday 26 July 2014

As part of our 31st Anniversary celebrations titled ASKQANCE 2014, the Karnataka Quiz Association will host a series of general quiz contests for students of various classes. All the quizzes will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Institution of Agricultural Technologists, Queen’s Road, Bangalore. The various events are as below:

Inter-Middle School Quiz for students in classes 5, 6 and 7 in teams of 2 – a maximum of 6 teams per school
QMs: Santosh Swaminathan and Venkatesh Srinivasan

Inter-High School Quiz for students in classes 8, 9 and 10 in teams of 2 – a maximum of 6 teams per school
QMs: Hrishikesh Varma and Praveen VR

Junior College Quiz for students in classes 11 and 12 (or Junior College / PU) in teams of 3

Inter-College Quiz for students in UG and PG courses in teams of 3

The Junior College and College quizzes will have a common preliminary round and separate finals. QMs – Varun Shenoy and Sai Ganesh

We invite participation in these events – all team members have to be from the same school/college.

Please note that registration is only through the online form available at the links below. No hard copy/paper registration or printout is required. Students can wear school uniform and/or carry a school badge for identification.

ASKQANCE 2014

The Karnataka Quiz Association will be celebrating its 31st anniversary this year. We will be hosting a series of quizzes as part of ASKQANCE 2014 – a 2.5 day festival of open quizzes.

All quizzes will be held at the Institution of Agricultural Technologists, Queen’s Road, Bangalore.

1:30 PM to 3:00 PM – Newton’s Cradle – the Science and Technology Quiz by Navin Rajaram – Written Quiz for teams of 2 or less – Prizes for the Top 3 teams

3:15 PM to 7:30 PM – Sesame – the Open General Quiz by Thejaswi Udupa and Mitesh Agarwal – prelims followed by finals for the Top 8 teams – Teams of 4 or less.

We will also be giving out the trophies for the winner of the 30th Anniversary Mahaquizzer edition held in Dec 2013 and the National Champion of Megawhats 2014 between the prelims and the finals of Sesame. There will also be a KQA-hosted high-tea for all participating teams.

All quizzes will carry an entry fee of Rs 100/team, except for school teams. Prizes for all finalists in all the quizzes. Look forward to seeing all of you in June!

ASKQANCE 2013 – Schools and Colleges

We will hold the KQA Anniversary School and College quizzes on Saturday, August 24, 2013.
The quizzes will be held at Institute of Agricultural Technologists (IAT), Queens Road, in the ground floor hall.
The quizzes are:

I. Middle School Quiz – classes 5-7
Middle School prelims: 9 AM to 9:40 AM
Middle School Finals: 9:50 AM to 10:50 AM

II. High School Quiz – classes 8-10
High School Prelims: 11 AM to 11:40 AM
High School Finals: 11:50 AM to 1:00 PM

Invitation letters have been sent out to schools.
There is a restriction of 3 teams per school per category.

III. PU Quiz – classes 11-12 / PU / Junior College

The prelims for the PU and College quizzes will be common, with separate finals.
PU and College Prelims: 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM
PU Finals: 3:00 – 4:30 PM

IV. College Quiz – UG and PG

PU and College Prelims: 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM
