The Norwegian Open Quiz

The Norwegian Open Quiz for solo contestants will be held on Saturday 11 April. The quiz comprises 270 questions to be answered in writing in three sessions.

World Quizzing Championships – Bangalore details

Bangalore, as ever, will be one of the venues of the World Quizzing Championships.

Venue: The auditorium at Command Hospital

Date: June 7th, Saturday

Time: 3 pm. Sharp.

Registration fee: Rs. 50/- per head. Registration is mandatory.

Nagaratna Patil has graciously agreed to proctor the quiz for us.

Words to the wise–the venue is an Air Force establishment, and you will be allowed to enter only if you have a valid ID on you. We also want you to register before-hand. The KQA is planning two quizzes on Saturday, Nov 9 – the day preceding the Bengaluru edition of the Landmark Quiz. The quizzes are:

10:30 AM – 1:30 PM – Solus Rex, the KQA’s annual solo quiz in a new format, by Thejaswi Udupa

2:30 PM – 6:00 PM – The Ganesh Nayak Memorial Open Quiz for teams of 4 or less by Hari Parameswaran

The quizzes will happen at our usual location – IAT on Queen’s Road.

 

Quizzes on Sunday 20 October 2013

The KQA will hold its next series of quizzes on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Institution of Agricultural Technologists, Queen’s Road. The details are:

9 AM – 10:30 AM: The annual Oasis Quiz Lone Wolf Edition 2013 organized by The English Language Activities Society, the official quiz club of BITS, Pilani. This is a 90 minute, 120 question written solo quiz held simultaneously in various venues across the country as well as abroad. The quiz is open to all. However, there are two categories – College and Open, with prizes for both categories provided by the organisers.

10:30 AM – 2:00 PM: The October Open Quiz by Kaustuba Venugopal for teams of 4 or less; Prelims, followed by finals for the top 8 teams; Entry Fee – Rs 100/team

2:30 PM – 4:00 PM: Pilferages – a quiz on popular and pulp fiction by Vivek Karthikeyan and Venkatesh Srinivasan for teams of 2 – this is a 40-questions written quiz. Entry Fee – Rs 100/team

4:15 PM to 8:00 PM: Persiflage – the annual KQA Books Quiz for teams of 4 or less by Sumant Srivathsan and Thejaswi Udupa; Prelims, followed by finals for the top 8 teams; Entry Fee – Rs 100/team

 

Canara Union Lone Wolf – Results

The Canara Union Lonewolf Quiz was conducted on Sunday 25th August and had 43 solo contestants taking the prelims, which had 35 questions. The cutoff score was 12.75 and the top 13 were selected for the finals.

XIX Vidyasagar Rajan Memorial College Quiz and Solus Rex – Results

The XIX Vidyasagar Rajan Memorial quiz for colleges was held on 14 October 2012. 14 teams took part in the prelims, which was set by Dr. Arul Mani, from which 8 teams qualified to the finals. The prelims had 30 questions to be answered in 20 minutes from a printed sheet. The cut-off was 10.5.

At the end of a closely fought final, this is how the teams finished:

The 2012 edition of KQA’s Solus Rex quiz was conducted yesterday by Thejaswi Udupa in an all-new format! 37 participants took a 30-questions preliminary round, from which the top 15 qualified into three semis (cutoff was 10.5 and the highest 18) grouped in the boustrophedon format.

Each semis had 5 participants attempting a written round, a list-it and 20 questions. These 20 questions were also open to the other semi-finalists to “pounce” on.

At the end of the three semis, the top 6 finalists (top 2 from each semi-final) were identified and a short finals followed.
